San Jose Clash 1997 Third by @nike

Why Clash?..

The name reflected the league’s original vision: fast, physical, high-energy soccer designed to “clash” with traditional expectations of the sport in the U.S. It sounded dynamic, aggressive, and modern — very much in line with mid-90s naming trends (think Burn, Mutiny, Wiz).

It also subtly nodded to San Jose’s tech-driven, Silicon Valley identity — innovation, disruption, impact.

The Scorpion reflects the wildlife of San Jose with the animal being native to the area, I suppose it’s also meant to intimidate, in that cute American way

But while it was bold, it never truly felt rooted in the city’s deeper sporting identity.

Why the name change?

By 1999, MLS was shifting away from experimental branding and toward more traditional, globally familiar club identities. The Clash name felt very “90s MLS” — flashy but not timeless.

In 2000, the club rebranded as the San Jose Earthquakes, reviving the name of the NASL team that had played in the Bay Area in the 1970s. That move reconnected the club with local history and gave it more credibility with long-time soccer fans.

The change worked. Under the Earthquakes identity, the club went on to win MLS Cups in 2001 and 2003 and built a much stronger, tradition-based culture.

While I think the the new name is not bad, I still think it’s a cool name, and it’s definitely something America would call a football club.. There is something just so very special about the 90s MLS.. it was just a completely mad but incredibly fun style of football. something I think that should be remembered as our game becomes more and more sterile and more about rules than the pure joy of sport

Real Madrid 1990/91 Home by @hummelsport

Now that’s what I call clean!

This has to be one of if not my favourite Real Madrid shirt.
Late 80s, early 90s Hummel were top tier! Whilst it doesn’t have the full chevron sleeves and just the 2 it’s unmistakably Hummel

The fabric is fantastic! Just the right amount of scratchy, it’s light and pretty breathable
The V-neck is so much nicer than the previous years collar which gave you the feeling of being strangled at all times

The crest is amazing, a really detailed embroidered badge that has then been sewn on
It’s a great colour collaboration as well, with Hummel keeping the colours of the club in the branding, which can be a rare thing

Managed by Alfredo Di Stéfano, Los Blancos finished 3rd in La Liga and lifted the Supercopa de España, with legends like Emilio Butragueño carrying the torch in the closing chapter of the Quinta del Buitre era.

Overall it’s a 9/10 for me, my only complaint is how slim fit it is.. but that’s more of issue on my end

Manchester United 1997/98 Away Shirt by @umbro

This Special shirt was worn for the 1997/98 Charity shield match between Manchester United and Chelsea

For those that don’t know, the charity shield is the first game of the season between the league winners and the FA Cup winners

Held at Wembley it was a 1-1 draw with goals from Gianfranco Zola and Teddy Sheringham
United ended up winning on Penalties

This famous misspelt shirt worn by Beckham obviously misses the H in the middle

This was an error by the kitman Albert Morgen who put it down to name blindness, as he had to make 4 jerseys for each play, this is understandable

I think it’s really cool when errors like this happens, it makes an otherwise pretty forgettable match much more memorable

This shirt is special because it’s the first shirt Zizou wore in his senior international career

Fantastic thick fabric with a great collar
I love the design with the diamond pattern running down one side
The detailed gold crest is just iconic and always looks great
As far as fit and style goes I think this is one of the best shirts to come out of 1994

August 17th 1994 against the Czech Republic
Coming on as a substitute in the 63rd minute to rescue a draw scoring twice

The rest is History..

108 Caps with 31 goals

1998 World Cup Winner as Well as the Euro 2000
He also won the Ball d‘Or in 1998

TSV 1860 vs Rot Weiß Essen at the Grünwalder Stadion

3rd Division Bundesliga Match

The Grünwalder Stadion is one of the oldest stadiums in the world, it has been the home of 1860 since 1911 with a break in the late 90s/00s where they shared the Olympia Stadion as well as the Allianz Arena with Bayern München

Fantastic atmosphere! 15000 fans in an absolutely no frills stadium, no screens, no electronic billboards
Even the score and time are analog displays

Food is as you would expect.. Würst in a roll and a beer
Very reasonable at 5€ a pint and the Bratwurst also a fiver

Fantastic club shop with super helpful staff, on site printing for jerseys, they had everything you would want but in a nice small shop on the training ground site

The gamepad a pretty dull one with 2 very late scrappy goals in the very late stages
A draw was fair although Die Löwen had most of the ball
They were definitely missing their captain @jesperverlaat and needed his leadership on the pitch

Overall a great day out! Thanks to @footballkitclassics for the ticket! It was a pleasure 🤍💙

Debut season for Lothar Matthäus

I think it’s the best crest in football!!
Lovely soft fabric and classic collar by Nike

The colours just Pop off each other

Unfortunately the club was bought and then rebranded by Redbull in 2006 so they only lasted 10 years

Matthäus only made 16 appearances for the club before retiring in 2001 and stepping immediately into management

For me it’s a 10/10

5. Leverkusen looks like a used tampon that’s been left in the rain
4. Le Havre.. no me neither
3. Hertha Neon Nightmare
2. Twente fans must feel so sad right now

As a Toon fan it’s always hard because you know you’re owned by one of the most disgusting regimes in the world, and to be reminded of that every time we play away is grim.. also that noon sponsor is so so ugly

One of my favourite home jerseys!

The fabric is fantastic! Having the club crest throughout the fabric just looks amazing
The detailed embroidered crest in the middle above our most iconic sponsor; Newcastle Brown Ale

The only thing I don’t love about the shirt is the high collar, I’ve never been a fan of high collars, I much prefer a some for of V-neck

It was worn for 2 seasons, which were weirdly identical
Both seasons we finished in 13th position in the league
We lost back to back FA Cup finals
Went out in the group stage in the champions league
Although both years we qualified for the champions league by default because the winners of the FA Cup had already qualified

Kenny Dalglish was sacked after a poor start to the season.. he is loved by the club for his efforts and some iconic signings he made..
Although he sold Ginola and Les Ferdinand to Tottenham
He did bring in club hero Shay Given as well as John Barnes and Ian Rush.. I bet you didn’t know Ian Rush played for the toon

Ruud Guillit was the replacement manager.. he made some horrible transfers as well a few good ones, but lost thedressing room and even left Shearer out for most of the season..

Still.. one of my favourite shirts from the toon, gets a solid 9/10 from me

Baggy sleeves and a mad double layer fabric on the bottom half of the shirt

The jersey ran for 2 seasons but this one is from 2002/03 because it has the regular premier league patches

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side reclaimed the Premier League title, finishing top with 83 points, 74 goals scored, and just 34 conceded. The team won 25 of their 38 league games, edging out Arsenal by five points and setting the tone for another era of dominance.

In this shirt, United delivered some unforgettable performances. On 1 December 2002, Diego Forlán’s brace sealed a 2-1 win at Anfield, silencing Liverpool on their own turf. A week later, United beat Arsenal 2-0 at Old Trafford – a huge moment in the title race. This is a very special shirt in my collection..
The first shirt I ever bought with my own money, a jersey that I would wear and end up losing somewhere 🤷‍♂️

Years later after searching for one for absolutely ever a friend of mine contacted me after watching my episode on @shirtspod where I tell the guys about my Holy Grail and how I’ve been looking for one ever since I lost it

Incredibly rare to find one in Longsleeve, which is the original that I had.. the champions league patches are actually sewn on which is amazing!

I’ve added my own custom print for Ricardo Kaka on the back as to find an original now is near impossible

I fell in love with Milan that year after watching them win the champions league that year with Kaka being the best footballer in the world.. and by some distance that year!

This is the 6th version of the special Wiesn shirt

The first being a special away shirt in the 2013/14 season, whilst officially starting in the 2021/22 season. Since then they have released one each year.

This one in my opinion is one of the worst, it’s using the same fabric from the 125 year anniversary shirt, which is really lovely.. the rest though.. it just feels so lazy

The off white fabric looks horrible, the crest in the old style lettering just looks like a bad attempt by AI.
The huge Telekom sponsor on the front is fucking horrible.. why not go for a beer sponsor? They’re literally partnered with Paulaner!

If you’re a Bayern fan, you deserve better than this poor money grabbing attempt from adidas and the club

I really love everything about it.. the super soft but quality fabric.. the small extra thick crest is really smart

I’m not a fan of the 90s Dortmund shirts.. very controversial I know.. but this one I really like

These incredible animals still have scientists puzzled as to how and why they perform this incredible breeding migration
