THE SHIRT STORY.
Seventy-three goals in one season. Messi’s numbers in 2011/12 still look ridiculous, with 50 of those coming in La Liga alone. His five goals against Bayer Leverkusen in a 7–1 Champions League win were probably the clearest example of just how far ahead he was.
This was also Guardiola’s final season at Barça, ending with a Copa del Rey win over Athletic Bilbao. The shirt marked a change too: Qatar Foundation moved onto the front as the club’s first paid shirt sponsor, with UNICEF moving to the back. A shirt from a season when Messi made scoring look almost routine.
