THE SHIRT STORY.
Torres before Liverpool, and Spain before the trophies started rolling in. Still at Atlético Madrid, the 22-year-old scored three times at the 2006 World Cup: one in the opening 4–0 win over Ukraine and two against Tunisia.
His finish against Ukraine was the standout, rounding off a brilliant move with Puyol charging forward and setting him up. Spain won all three group games, but France ended their tournament in the last 16. The red shirt with gold Adidas details brings back that summer in Germany, when Torres, Villa, Xavi and Iniesta were beginning to look like a very promising combination.
